Digital Adoption Skills for Women Project

Digital Adoption Skills for Women Project

Introduction
The digital era has transformed the global economy, creating vast opportunities for those with access to technology and the skills to harness it. Yet, for many women—particularly those in marginalized Black communities—barriers such as limited internet access, lack of digital literacy, and systemic inequities in the tech industry hinder their ability to thrive in this evolving landscape.

The CANCARO Digital Skills for Women and Access to the Internet Business Development Project seeks to bridge this gap. By equipping women with the digital skills they need to excel in the modern economy and improving their access to the internet, this initiative empowers them to launch and grow businesses, participate in e-commerce, and drive innovation in their communities.

The Need for the Project

Globally, women face significant digital inequities:

  1. Digital Divide: Women are 20% less likely than men to access the internet in developing countries, and this disparity is even wider in rural areas and marginalized communities.
  2. Economic Exclusion: Limited digital skills and internet access restrict women’s ability to participate in online business opportunities, locking them out of high-growth industries.
  3. Underrepresentation in Technology: Women, especially Black women, remain underrepresented in tech-driven fields, which are among the fastest-growing and highest-paying sectors.

The project addresses these challenges by ensuring women not only gain the tools and training needed to succeed but also have equal access to the opportunities of the digital economy.

Vision and Mission

  • Vision: To create a world where women, particularly Black women, have equitable access to digital tools, internet connectivity, and the knowledge needed to build successful businesses and thrive in the digital economy.
